Contamination of Heavy Metal in Small Scale Gold Mining, Indonesia

This research is located in Boto Village and its vicinity, Wonogiri Regency, Central Java Province, Indonesia. In this area, the small-scale gold mining activities which are usually called Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) have been existed due to interest in the epithermal low sulfidation gold mineralization appearance. There are severals mines at the elevation around 500 m close to the village, but the miners bring the gold ore to the gold processing area near the settlements. The contamination of heavy metals and the other elements that can be harmful for people, rice fields, and small rivers are the background of this research. There are several types of samples which will be collected such as tailing samples, stream sediment, soil, and rice plants.

The aim of this research is to quantify the concentration of arsenic, mercury, lead and other heavy metals associated with the study area using ICP-MS and ICP-OES methods.
